Wilma Beckius

Wilma Marie Beckius, age 94 of Ogallala, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 5, 2010.

 

She was born April 7, 1916 at North Platte, Nebraska, the daughter of Charles O. and Clara E. (Walker) Bairn. The family moved to a homestead in Arthur County until their home burned down, at which time they moved to Ogallala.

 

Wilma married Henry J. Beckius on April 10, 1945 at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala. They lived on a farm outside of Ogallala until 1945 when they moved into town and raised their children. Wilma had reside in Ogallala since that time. She had been a longtime member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and the Altar Society.

 

Wilma worked for many years to support her family after the death of her husband when the youngest of their children was just two years old. She worked on a ranch into her eighties. She had served as a den mother when her boys were young. She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary and the RSVP volunteers. She always had a great love of flowers and was a very giving person that expected very little in return.

Three sons, John and wife Marsha Beckius of Ellendale, ND

Charles Beckius of Ogallala

Nicholas and wife Bernice Beckius of Hopkinsville, KY

Daughter, Susanna and husband Robert Mason of North Platte, NE

Sister, Irene Jessop of Ogallala

Brother, Robert Bairn of Alliance, NE

13 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Clara Bairn; her husband, Henry John Beckius; brothers, Junior and John Bairn; sister, Elizabeth Bairn; an infant at birth; her in laws, Mathias and Susana (Wenner) Beckius; and a close friend, Louis Cerny.

 

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 10th at St. Luke's Catholic Church with Father Neal Nollette as celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

 

Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the Gubser Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the Gubser Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
