Walter Feller Walter Raymond Feller, age 88 of Fredericksburg, Texas, father of Linda Bergmeier, passed away Thursday, September 2, 2010 in Fredericksburg. Walter was born October 3, 1921 at Harper, Texas, the son of Alfred and Amanda (Schaefer) Feller. As a young boy, Walter played with a stick horse made out of tree branches. He also picked cotton in the cotton fields and sheared sheep and goats.
In 1942 he joined the U.S. Army at the age of twenty one at Ft. Houston, Texas. He took his basic training in Wala Wala, Washington. He was a Military Policeman at Camp Pendleton, CA and Sioux Falls, SD. He was stationed at McCook, Nebraska as a cook when he met and married Myrtle Hanson in 1945 at North Platte. To this union a daughter, Linda Elaine, was born.
The family lived in Harper, Texas, where Walter was a ranch hand until 1948 when they moved to North Platte. Walter spent the next thirty four years working with the Fireman and Oilers Department of the Union Pacific Railroad. After Myrtle passed away in June of 1987 he moved back to Harper. He married Julia Marshell and the couple made their home outside of Harper ranching for the next twenty years.
Walter always loved the ranching life but not the Nebraska winters. His greatest joy was spending time with his Nebraska and Texas families and many friends. His greatest pastime was playing the harmonica and singing and dancing the jig at the Long Branch Cafe every Friday night in Harper. He loved showing his family and friends the ranch animals and also took them four wheeling.
Walter's activities included coaching girl's softball, playing softball himself, bowling, fishing, camping and hunting. He loved to play dominos, forty two, wahoo, washers and even helping with the garden. His family will always remember the mouse trick and his jokes and that he was a great cook. Survivors include:
