Ruby Feltz

 

            Ruby Frances Feltz, age 99, passed away on Saturday evening, June 5, 2010, at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

            Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 11th at the Keystone Presbyterian Church with Pastor Duane Dunwoody officiating.  Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

            Ruby was born on November 14, 1910 in Hyannis, Nebraska the daughter of D.D. and Anna Mary (Eck) Cole, the fifth of eight children.  She spent her childhood in the Sand Hills between Arthur and Tryon.  The family lived in a sod house on a Kincaid homestead.  Ruby graduated from the Arthur High School in 1927.  The family moved to Keystone in 1930 where Ruby began working for her father in the Bank of Keystone. 

            On August 9, 1934, she married Gene Feltz at her parent's home in Keystone.  The couple had three daughters, Allie (Bill) O'Connor of Ogallala, Georgie Feltz of Berkeley, CA and Jonnie (Pete) Peterson of Brule.  She is also survived by seven grandchildren and their spouses and fourteen great grandchildren, a sister Beatrice Fenwick of Westminster, CO, and a sister in law, Evelyn Feltz of Kentucky.

            On September 7, 1930 Ruby joined the Keystone Presbyterian Church.  She held the longest continuing membership in the congregation.  She had served as Sunday School Superintendent in the 1940's and was also a long term Elder of the church.  She had been an active member of the Keystone Ladies Aide and was the oldest member of the Keystone Women's Library Association.  She was a Cowbell, a member of the Nebraska Cattlemen's Association and enjoyed the Keystone Roperettes.

            Ruby treasured her Keystone roots and took great satisfaction in being an integral part of the community.  One of her favorite experiences was working at the North Platte Canteen during World War II.  She was a faithful greeter who was happy to contribute to the well being of the troops.  She was an avid golfer and a long time member of the Ogallala Golf Club.  She was loyal and devoted to all her family.

            Memorials in her memory may be directed to the Little Church at Keystone, the Keystone Library or the American Heart Association.
