Rosemary Voda
Rosemary Voda, age 79 of Ogallala, passed away Friday evening, June 29, 2007 at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Rosemary was born October 8, 1927 in Harpers Ferry, Iowa the daughter of Emil and Oliva (Goerdt) Krapfl. After graduating from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rosemary worked in Cedar Rapids, Houston, and Denver hospitals. While she was working in Denver she met Edward Voda who was serving in the U.S. Air Force. They were married in Harpers Ferry, Iowa on May 20, 1953. While Ed was in the Air Force she also worked in California and Texas where he was stationed. After Ed’s discharge from the Air Force the couple settled on a farm near Wauneta, Nebraska and later moving to Ogallala when their children were of school age. Rosemary worked at the Ogallala Community Hospital until Ed’s firm transferred him to McCook where she worked at the McCook Community Hospital. When they were transferred back to Ogallala she again resumed employment at the hospital there. The couple also lived in Guadalajara, Mexico for six years. Rosemary was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Survivors include: Her husband, Ed of Ogallala Children, Mark Voda of Ogallala Deb (Paul) Mellen of Dixon, Illinois Doug (Kathy) Voda of Sanford, Florida Four grandchildren, Holly Voda of Long Island, New York Joe and Heather Voda of State College, Pennsylvania Jocelyn Mellen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin Sister, Luci LaBonte of Huntley, Illinois Brothers, Gary Kraft of Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin Paul Kramer of Madison, Wisconsin
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Mary Ellen; a brother, Roy; a sister, Ethel; and a grandson, Craig.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 2, 2007 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest as celebrant. Burial will be in the Ft. McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell, Nebraska. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 1st at the Gubser Funeral Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the Rosary on Sunday with the family greeting friends from 6:00 until 7:00. A memorial has been established in her memory to the Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be sent to www.gubserfuneralhome.com.
