Richard C. Hammond, Sr.

Richard C. Hammond, Sr., age 70 of Ogallala, passed away on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.  He was born October 10, 1937 in St. Petersburg, Florida, the son of Chester and Georgia (Appling) Hammond. 

 As a young man he helped his father build several boats.  This endeavor fueled his lifelong passion for fishing.  Richard later moved to Colorado where he met the love his life.  On November 5, 1955 he married Carol Joy in Denver, Colorado.  The couple enjoyed many years of hunting and fishing together.   

Richard was a graduated from Denver Automotive and Diesel College in 1975.  He had also been a journeyman painter for thirty seven years.  He moved to Ogallala to make his home in 2006.

Survivors include:

Four children,   Richard (Michelle) Hammond of New Castle, CO

                        Robert (Valerie) Hammond of Golden, CO

                        Chyenne (Stan) Biven of Dayton, NV

                        Roland (Judy) Hammond of Ogallala

10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Hammond.

 Cremation was chosen.  Inurnment will be in Colorado at a later date.  Online condolences may be sent to gubserfuneralhome.com.  Gubser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
