Ray Rose Longtime Brule resident, M. Ray Rose, age 78, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Brule with Pastor Jon Dickmander officiating. Burial will be in the Brule Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Keith County Veteran’s Organizations.
Ray was born August 25, 1930 at Beloit, Kansas the son of Eunice Cochran. He attended schools in Kansas and Colorado. In 1950, he graduated from Burlington High School. Following graduation, he entered the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in California and Fairbanks, Alaska. He then went to Emery-Riddle School in Miami and received his aircraft mechanics license and at the same time received his commercial pilot’s license from Kendall Flying School. Ray was employed as a mechanic at Searle Field in Ogallala. He was also an aerial applicator. Before retiring in 1992, he worked for the United States Postal Service for twenty five years.
On February 10, 1963, Ray was united in married with Lois Schmidt Mizell. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in which he served his Lord in all offices of the church. Ray served on the Brule Public School Board and was currently on the Brule Cemetery Board.
Ray proudly supported the Red Cross by donating over nine gallons of blood. His interests included flying and building aircraft, traveling and playing cards. During his retirement, Ray refurbished a 1915 Model T which he drove in Brule Day Parades.
Survivors include his wife Lois, and their children Debra Mizell of Denver, Co, Susan Mizell of Lamar, CO, Michael Rose of Divide, CO, Kevin Rose of St. Louis, MO, Chris Rose of Mills, WY, and a step-sister Betty Nairn of Hutchinson, KS. He was preceded in death by his mother Eunice Mugley and his step-father Elmer Rose.
A memorial has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent atgubserfuneralhome.com. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 1st at the Gubser Funeral Home and prior to the services at the church on Friday.
