Robert Combs Captain Robert E. Combs, 78, who served in the United States Navy for over 30 years, died at his home in Herndon, VA on July 15, 2007 of natural causes.
Robert started out as a "White Hat" Navy recruit in 1946. He became a Naval Aviation Cadet in 1951 and went on to become a Naval Aviator. He commanded the HS11 Helicopter Antisubmarine Squadron. He later commanded the Antisubmarine Air Group 54, and was also the Commanding Officer of the Naval Recruiting District of Boston. Bob came to Washington, D.C. in 1975 and served in the Pentagon in various assignments until his retirement.
He is survived by: His beloved wife of fifty years, Eileen Combs of Herndon, VA Sisters, Pat and Sharon Brother, Jim Sister in law, Maxine (Ron) Kalkowski of Ogallala Brother in law, Milford Krajewski of Ogallala And numerous nieces and nephews in Colorado and Nebraska He was preceded in death by his two sons, Clendon and Douglas. Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 19th at the St. John Neumann Catholic Community Church. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24th at the Ogallala Cemetery with Father Neal Nollett officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the Keith County Veteran’s Organizations.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the CapitolHospice.org. in his memory. Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
