Nelda Welsh Nelda R. Welsh, age 78 of Ogallala, passed away Wednesday evening, January 13, 2010 at the Heritage of Bel Air nursing facility in Norfolk, Nebraska. She was born January 18, 1931 at Ericson, Nebraska the daughter of Sherman Vernon and Anna Johanna “Hattie” (Nelsen) Mentzer. Nelda graduated from the Ericson High School in 1948 and from Kearney State Teacher’s College with a teaching certificate in 1950. She married Joseph C. Welsh, Jr. on July 9, 1951 at Ericson.
Nelda was employed for NPPD in Ogallala for twenty six years before her retirement in 1994. She was a member of the Ogallala United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She had been very active as a volunteer for the RSVP. She had been a member of the Red Hat Society and was very active in her bridge club. Nelda had been a longtime member of the American Legion Auxiliary and had also been a member of the NPPD retirement club called the “Klassy Kilowatts”. Nelda and Joe were very active for many years in the Ogallala Booster Club for high school athletics. Following her retirement she worked at the Holiday Inn Express in Ogallala for several years before becoming ill in 2006.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lael and Lorraine; and two brothers, Arthur and Howard. Survivors include: Two sons, Joseph “Chuck” Welsh, III of Ogallala Doug and wife Melonie Welsh of Omaha Daughter, Susan and husband Jim Collins of North Platte Grandchildren, Katie Welsh of Omaha Meghan Welsh of Omaha Tayler Collins of North Platte Joseph Collins of Idaho Falls, ID Molly and husband Hector Morales of North Platte Great-grandchildren, Alek and Hallei Morales of North Platte Brother in law, John Woolley of St. Paul, MN Sister in laws, Caroline Mentzer of Ericson Marion Mentzer of St. Louis, MO Rosie Walters of Chicago, IL Regina Teichert of North Platte Olga Welsh of Ashland, OH Darlene Welsh of North Platte And a host of nieces and nephews
Funeral services for
Nelda Welsh will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 18th at
the Ogallala United Methodist Church with Pastor Jim Miller
officiating. Committal services will be held at 2:00 p.m. (CST) at
Ft. McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell. |
