Myrtle Baruth

Myrtle Baruth, age 91 of North Platte, former longtime Ogallala resident, went to be with her Lord on Monday, February 23, 2009 at Premier Estates in North Platte. She was born May 5, 1917 in Hebron, Nebraska the daughter of Lowell and Rose Anna (Hoffman) Watts.

 

Myrtle attended school through the eighth grade and helped with her nieces and their children until she met Charles Washburn Baruth. They were married on October 31, 1934 and moved to Oregon along with her sister Edna and her new husband. To this union six children were born: Charles Eugene, Sharon Marie, Barbara Joyce, Carol Ann, Franklin Lowell and William Lynn. Myrtle’s husband died in 1958. She moved to Ogallala where she worked in cafes washing dishes before starting her employment with TRW in 1961. She retired in 1980.

 

Myrtle met Melvin Campbell in the early 1960’s and the two were companions until his death in 1990. Myrtle moved to North Platte several years ago to be close to her family. She loved playing bingo and shopping at Walmart.

 

Survivors include:

Three children, Charles Eugene Baruth of North Platte

Sharon Marie Baruth of North Platte

William Lynn Baruth of North Platte

One sister, Edna Fritchie of Oregon

23 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 17 great-great grandchildren

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Baruth; two daughters, Carol Ownes and Barbara Busnell; one son, Franklin Baruth; two brothers, Claude Watts and Rory Watts; one sister, Elsie Lemmon and a great granddaughter, Brandy.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28th at the Gubser Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gubser Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
