Michael Thompson

Michael D. Thompson, age 54, a former Ogallala resident, passed away Wednesday evening, March 31st at his home in North Platte.

Michael was born July 13, 1955 in Ogallala, the son of Donnell and Marqurete (Fruit) Thompson. When Mike was six weeks old he developed spinal meningitis and spent several months in the Children’s Hospital in Denver. As a result of his illness he was left physically and mentally challenged.

Michael had lived for many years in a special home in North Platte. He loved watching television, going for rides and spending time at the park. He was an avid Nebraska Husker fan and decorated his room in Husker colors. He had many special friends among the residents and staff at the North Platte Opportunity Center.

Survivors include:

His sister, Beth and husband Sonny McCormick of Ogallala

Many cousins, nieces and nephews

And his extended family from the North Platte Opportunity Center

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Beverly Dunnevitz; and a nephew, Kelly Kerchal

Funeral services will be held t 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6th at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Father Bryan Ernest of St. Luke’s Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
