Merle Peters

 

Merle Peters, age 92 of Ogallala, passed away June 18, 2007 at the Indian Hills Manor Nursing Home in Ogallala.

Merle was born June 25, 1914 in Ogallala the son of Julius Albert and Janette Edith (McConnell) Peters. Merle grew up in Ogallala and graduated from the Ogallala High School.

During World War II Merle lived in California working on government contracts building air bases. He married Harriett Field on July 16, 1936. The couple moved back to Ogallala where they built the home where Merle resided until his death.

Merle was a building contractor in the Ogallala for over fifty years building many homes and businesses in the area. He enjoyed golfing, walking, bowling, woodworking and attending Ogallala High School sporting events. In later years Merle especially enjoyed eating and visiting with friends at the Keith County Senior Center. Merle was a longtime member of the Ogallala United Methodist Church. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil Peters; a sister, Phylis Guilner; his wife, Harriett Peters; a daughter, Merlene Conrad; a grandson, James Conrad and a great-granddaughter, Maddison Conrad.

and several cousins, nieces and nephews

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18th at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jim Miller of the Ogallala United Methodist Church officiating.
