M.E. Dobesh A void has been created for family, friends and Ogallala, by the death of Marius Emerson "Dobe" Dobesh on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at the Ogallala Community Hospital. Dobe was the second child of ten children born to Frank Herbert Dobesh and Cleo Agnes Knapp Dobesh on a farm south of Ansley, Nebraska on March 14, 1914. His grandparents, Anton Paul Dobesh and Marie Antonia Tomisick-Dobesh immigrated to the United States from Prague, Czechoslovakia in 1871, settling in Wahoo, Nebraska. Dobe attended a country school and graduated from Ansley High School, where he was an outstanding athlete in all sports. He particularly enjoyed track and running the high hurdles, winning medals at the state track meets in Lincoln. He moved to Ogallala on July 4, 1937 and began working for W.J. Scoot, the Ford dealer. By 1945 he had his own business, Dobesh Body Shop, which he operated for almost forty seven years before he retired. Being mechanically gifted served him well in his line of work. On June 1, 1938, Dobe and Dorothy Mae Kimball were married in Broken Bow, Nebraska and set up a home life in Ogallala. Three children were born to this union, Karma Dee, James Dennis and Debra Joleen. He supported his community in many ways and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Ogallala Volunteer Fire Department, Ogallala Masonic Lodge # 159 A.F. & A.M., for which he received his sixty year service certificate as a Master Mason, Big Mac Shrine Club, Shrine Club of Lincoln, charter member of the Ogallala Elks Lodge and the Ogallala Golf Club. Dobe loved playing golf and did so into his eighties. There are several trophies to attest to his natural ability. Dobesh, as he liked to refer to himself, enjoyed people. He had the natural ability to inject wit and humor into every situation. His smile lit up a room and his care, generosity and support for family and friend was always foremost in his thoughts and actions. He will be sorely missed by all who know him. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: John, Melvin and Frank, three sisters, Darlene Rebal, Delores Kaelin and Valaire Molesworth. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife of seventy one and a half years, Dorothy; children: Karma (Mark) Williamson of Spoken, Washington, James D. Dobesh of Denver, Colorado, and Debra Dosek of Clemmons, North Carolina, five grandchildren:Kristin Williamson (Bruce) Keeling, Wendy Williamson (Paul) Finster, Matthew (Keron) Williamson, Dan (Julie) Dosek and Drew Dosek, seven great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Yvonne Ostrand, Naomi Rusmisell and Gwen Hawk. In accordance with Dobe’s wishes his body will be cremated and inurnment will be at a later date. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Reverend Phil Ewert officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the services. The family appreciates all the cards sent, visits and telephone calls made, and care given to our father during his last months. They meant a great deal to him, and we thank you. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to the Keith County Senior Center or the charity of your choice in Dobe’s memory. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. |
