Leah Anderson Leah Lorraine Stanley Anderson was born September 10, 1925 to Cecil and Jane (Armstrong) Stanley on the family farm north of Big Springs, Nebraska. She was baptized and later became a member of the United Methodist Church in Big Springs. She attended Country School (District 30 - Bundy School) and graduated in 1943 from the Big Springs High School, furthering her education with a year at Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, Missouri. She worked in Denver, Colorado as a Secretary at Rocky Mountain Arsenal until her marriage furthering her employment for thirty two years at Good All Electric / TRW in Ogallala, Nebraska. At the time of her retirement in 1986, she held the position of Administrative Secretary. Leah enjoyed bicycling and working in her yard - giving tender care to her roses in particular. She was also proud of the fact that she taught all seven grandchildren how to drive. After Leah’s marriage, she transferred her membership to the United Church of Christ Congregational in Brule, Nebraska. She enjoyed her church by being a faithful member often serving as a lay reader and the Women’s Fellowship found her always a willing worker and holding many office positions. The Christian Women of Ogallala, she enjoyed so much her contact with these ladies and held numerous positions in the group. She was proud to be a descendent of family farming. She was a director of Brule Heritage housing for fifteen years. She was a long-time blood donor to the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. Prime time was spent with her family - she always spoke of her daughter in laws as daughters and her sons as good listeners with a jostle of advice exchanged. Her grandchildren gave her purpose in life with their unquestionable love. She thought this anonymous poem quite fitting: I am like a penny. Not a bad one. A very bright one. Remember, My darling children, I’ll always turn up. Whenever you find a penny anywhere in the years to come, you pick it up and say, “There’s Grandmother!” Here’s a penny, take it, for luck, dear hearts. In time you will have a thousand reminders that I’m telling you how much you are loved. She leaves on this heavenly earth husband Robert “Bob” Anderson of Brule; sons Wayne (Sarah) Anderson of Minden, Nebraska and Joey (Carla) Anderson of Meridian, Idaho; one sister, Patricia Rhoades of Big Springs, Nebraska and one brother, Welton (Nancy) Stanley of Nampa, Idaho; two sister in laws, Helen Stanley of Big Springs, Nebraska and Doris Haldeen of Ogallala, Nebraska. She also leaves seven grandchildren - Jason (Crystal) Anderson of Brule, NE, John (Sarah) Anderson of Parker, CO, Jina (Broc) Whipple of Meridian, ID, Tim Anderson of Madison, WI, Pamela Anderson of Lincoln, NE, Stuart Anderson of Minden, NE and Anna Anderson of Lincoln, NE. Five great grandchildren, Mckynzee and Brianna Anderson, Kerrick Anderson, and Sydnie and Cole Whipple. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Jane Anderson, brothers John and Barry Stanley, a niece Shelley and nephew Joe Stanley. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at the Ogallala New Hope Church with Pastor Lauran Heidenreich of the First Congregational, United Church of Christ in Brule officiating. Burial was in the Brule Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the church in her memory. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. Gubser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
