Kay Bishop Catherine "Kay" Agnes Bishop, of Ogallala, passed away at her home, peacefully with her family at her side, on Sunday, August 5, 2007, her 85th birthday. She was born August 5, 1922 in Albion, Nebraska the daughter of Pete and Katherine (Klassen) Wlaschin. Her family moved to Ogallala in the mid 1930’s. Kay graduated from the Ogallala High School in 1940. After her graduation she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married Ken Bishop on October 21, 1946 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala. They operated Bishop Construction for several years before retiring and moving to Florida in 1987. Kay returned to Ogallala following Ken’s death in March of 2002. Through the years Kay enjoyed bowling on the Huskerettes Bowling team, playing cards, gardening and collecting seashells on the Florida beaches. Prior to moving to Florida she served as a volunteer on the election board for many years and was an active member of the St. Luke’s Altar Society. Kay was very actively involved with the annual Keith County Fair and Rodeo events, concentrating much of her efforts in the planning and carrying out the yearly breakfast. Kay will be remembered by many as the one who worked tirelessly for family, friends and the communities in which she lived. She was the epitome of hospitality and generosity, opening her heart and home to many. Survivors include: Daughters, Judy Bishop of Tucson, AZ Barbara "Jane" Bishop of Ogallala Sons, Doug and wife Mary Lou Bishop of Castle Rock, CO Don Bishop of Tucson, AZ Ken, Jr. and wife Joy Bishop of Ogallala Jeff and wife Cindy Bishop of Bellevue, NE Thirteen grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren A special nephew, Paul Wlaschin of Arlington, WA Sister in laws, Lorraine (Bishop) Welsh of San Diego, CA Margaret Wlaschin of Mahtomedi, MN Georgia Wlaschin of California And numerous nieces and nephews She was also preceded in death by her parents and eleven brothers and sisters. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 9th at the Gubser Funeral Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 10th at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. There will be no public visitation. A memorial has been established in Kay’s memory in lieu of flowers. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
