Karen McCulley
Karen McCulley, age 63, passed away at her Scottsbluff apartment on Tuesday, May 27, 2008. She was born September 5, 1944 and raised in Lincoln, graduating from the Lincoln High School in 1962. In 1966 she married W.T. McCulley and the couple moved to California where Karen stayed for the next thirty two years. In 1977 Karen married Romuald Nowakowski. While residing in California Karen found much joy in her church and was very active in church activities. Her jobs there included working in a candy factory, a sewing factory, a medical laboratory, working as a switchboard operator, and doing office work in an insurance company and a church. She did assembly work at home for a rope sandal company and also was an in home caretaker for several elderly people. After her divorce Karen moved to several locations in California and in 1999 moved to Ogallala where she enjoyed being closer to her family, having a cat and writing poetry.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Oldenburg; a brother, Lee Oldenburg both of Lincoln.
Survivors include her mother, Moreen Pomajzl of Scottsbluff; a sister, Merna Newman of Nebraska City; a brother, Elwin and wife Kay Oldenburg of Lincoln, a sister, Merle and husband Jerry Gruber of Lincoln, a sister, Kathy and husband Jim Kohl of Ogallala; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Cremation was chosen. Memorials may be made to the Perkins County Animal Shelter, where for a short time Karen volunteered, loving and caring for the animals.
