John D. McSweeney, age 88 of Ogallala, passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Ogallala Community Hospital.

He was born on May 3, 1921 at Sutherland, Nebraska the son of James and Molly (Langin) McSweeney. John served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp during World War II and was engaged in sales worldwide for most of his life until his retirement. He had moved to Ogallala to make his home ten years ago.

John was an avid bowler and was very interested in politics and business and like to debate issues with friends. He was a sports fan, especially of major league baseball. He was a member of the V.F.W. and St. Luke’s Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother, James McSweeney; and five sisters, Anna M. Berry, Ruth Tischler, Catherine Snedeker, Eileen McSweeney and Mary Lacey.

Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 8:00 a.m. on Monday,

July 20^t,h at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest as celebrant. Burial will be in the Sutherland Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 19^th at the Gubser Funeral Home.
