John Gordon

John L. Gordon, age 78, of Zephur Hills, Florida and Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in Omaha.

 

John was born at Paxton, Nebraska, on September 23, 1932, the son of Fred and Enola (Smith) Gordon. He spent his childhood years in the Roscoe - Paxton area, graduating from the Paxton High School in 1950.

John was a member of the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956. He served our country in the Korean Conflict.

 

John was married to Jeannette Therrien of Lawrence, Massachusetts, on April 16, 1955. To this union three children were born.

John and Jeannette lived in Portsmouth, Virginia before moving to Nebraska. They lived in Seward, Nebraska where John graduated from the Nebraska Technical School at Milford in 1959. They later moved to the Roscoe - Ogallala area where they resided for thirty years. John was the owner of the Roscoe Grain Elevator and was also engaged in farming, which was one of the joys of his life.

John was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, the VFW and the Ogallala Elks Lodge.

 

He and Jeannette started spending winters in Zephyr Hills, Florida in 1991, and moved there more permanently twelve years ago. John was an avid golfer, biker and walker and very much enjoyed the time they spent in Florida. They were members of the St. Joseph's parish in Zephyr Hills.

He is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Jeannette; his son, Kevin (Lenora) Gordon of North Platte; his daughter, Karen of Omaha and a granddaughter, Makala of Lincoln. He is also survived by two brothers, Alfred Gordon and Clifford (Marie) Gordon of North Platte; six sisters, Pauline Armknecht of Valley, Evelyn (LaVerne) Frosh of Paxton, Darlene (Dale) Elder of Aurora, Shirley (Ron) Ziegler of Ogallala, Joan (Jerry) Perlinger of North Platte and Marilyn (Roger) Dahlkoetter of Roscoe; a sister in law, Donna Gordon of Roscoe; a brother in law, Vernon Mailand of Grant; a sister in law, Dorothy Madden of Zephyr Hills, FL; a brother in law, Emile of Massachusetts; a brother in law, Raymond of Richmond, VA; and many nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Keith; his parents; one brother and two sisters.

 

A memorial has been established to St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala in his memory.

 

Committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. (CST) on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery south of Maxwell with military honors.
