Jake Baca

Jake G. Baca, age 87 of Ogallala, a former longtime Elsie area resident, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

Jake was born July 6, 1923 in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the son of Alfredo "Fred" and Rita (Chacon) Baca. He was a "lover of horses" and made his living doing what he enjoyed, farming and ranching and mechanical work.

He married Margie Martinez in Dahlia, NM in 1941. To this union four children were born, Ruby, Robert, Shirley and John. After this marriage ended after thirty one years Jake helped raise three young boys, Victor, Marro and Ramon Perez.

In 2006 Jake retired from all his various activities and jobs and moved to Ogallala to make his home. His greatest love was for his numerous grandchildren. His hobbies included cabinet making, gardening chilies and tomatoes, hunting and collecting things. To Jake, another man's junk was his treasure. He also loved to read and watch westerns on television. He was known as a jokester and always got in the last work in a facetious manner. He will be missed by everyone who knew him.
