Bernice Ilene Wolford Bernice Ilene (Nielson) Wolford, age 86 of North Platte, a former longtime Lewellen resident, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. She was born January 14, 1922 in Brule, Nebraska the daughter of Neils and Glyde (Polley) Nielson.
Ilene received her education in Keith County. On January 13, 1940 she married Walter J. Wolford. They raised three children, Darlene, Carol and Jerry. As well as being a homemaker she was employed for many years at the Garden County Nursing Home. Ilene was always a willing volunteer for many community functions and organizations. Her family was always the most important part of her life.
Ilene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter; her daughter, Carol Ulrich; a son, Jerry Wolford; a grandson, Mark McCormick; and two brothers, Aurelius and Glenn Nielson.
Survivors include: Her daughter, Darlene and husband Ron McCormick of rural Lewellen And their family: Son, Steve and wife Teresa McCormick of rural Lewellen Son, Mike McCormick of Ogallala Grandchildren, Abby and Blake of rural Lewellen Carol’s family: Son, Bryan and wife Lana Ulrich of Oshkosh Son, Scott Ulrich of Lewellen Grandchildren, Levi, Jeremiah and Demi of Oshkosh Jerry’s family: Deanna Wolford of Ogallala Daughter, Michelle Wolford of Ogallala Step Children, Lenny, Jody, Lisa and Tracy Barb Wolford of Grant Step Children, La Shalle, Jenny and Katie Sisters, Inez Cohen of Oregon Iona Schaffer of Oregon Irene Harmonson of Ogallala Gladys Benzing of Lexington Rosie Zorn of Oshkosh Esther Norwood of Texas Sister in law, Virginia Sweere of Oregon
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 28th at the Ash Hollow Cemetery with Pastor Ray Weinerman officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Gubser Funeral Home. A memorial has been established in her memory to the Lewellen Volunteer Fire Department.
