Irene Ploog

Irene Mae Ploog, age 87, a former longtime Ogallala resident, passed away Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Heritage Health Care Center in Gering, Nebraska.

She was born July 15, 1921 in Carroll, Nebraska the daughter of Otto and Anna (Otte) Black. Irene attended schools and graduated high school in Carroll. She married Earl C. Ploog on October 10, 1943 in Madison, Nebraska.

The couple moved to Ogallala where their three daughters were born. They later resided in Lewellen for several years before moving back to Ogallala. Irene moved to a nursing home in Mitchell in 2004 and to the Heritage Care Center in Gering in 2005.

Irene was a homemaker for most of her life. She had also worked as a housekeeper at the Lakeway Lodge and in the housekeeping department at the Ogallala Community Hospital before her retirement.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the VFW Auxiliary. Irene loved to travel and visit her children and grandchildren. She was a great cook and loved to try out new recipes for her family.

She is survived by:

Grandsons, Scott (Nicole) Brodbeck of Katy, TX, Lance (Terri) Lindner of Kearney, NE

Ryan (Loddie) Reifschneider of Minatare, NE, Kelly Kaufman of Boise, ID

 

Granddaughters, Stacie (Randy) Flis of Thornton, CO

Kimberly Reifschneider of Custer, SD

 

4 great grandsons, 7 great granddaughters

 

Brother in law, Howard Schneekloth of Bellevue, NE

 

Sister in law, Gloria Melotz of Omaha, NE

 

And numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Ploog; brother in law, Vernon Fleshman; and sister in law, Lucille Schneekloth, and brother in law, John Melotz

 

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor David Dobbertien officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s’ Foundation or the American Heart Association in her memory.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gubser Funeral Home. Online condolences may be made at gubserfuneralhome.com.
