Ida Lucille Franken
Ida Lucille Franken, age 99 of Ogallala, passed away Friday evening,
May 14, 2010 at Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
She was born June 6, 1910 at Alma, Nebraska, the daughter of Kathryn
Ruby and Ross H. Keith. As a young child, Lucille moved with her
family to Guide Rock and Schuyler, then Brule where she attended
Brule High School. In 1917 she moved with her family to Paxton where
she graduated high school with the eleven member all girl class of
1928.
Following graduation Lucille worked for Hubert Kildare of Kildare
Lumber Company until her marriage to Shirley William Franken on
February 10, 1934 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Paxton. The
couple made their first home on a farm south of Roscoe where Lucille
dedicated herself to being a devoted farm wife and mother.
She was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church, where she served as
Altar Society president and long time member of the funeral dinner
committee. She was active in a Roscoe extension club which donated
foot and time to the North Platte Canteen, was a bridge enthusiast
and belonged to the Ogallala Country Club where she and Shirley
played golf during their retirement; winning her last tournament
while in her eighties.
Survivors include:
One son, William M. Franken of rural Ogallala
One daughter, Kay and husband John Gamet of Ogallala
Two grandsons, Stephen (Kim) Gamet of Lincoln, NE
Patrick (Lori) Gamet of Paxton
One granddaughter, Paige Gamet ( Theresa Harich) of Minneapolis, MN
Five great grandchildren, Mikayla and Meredith Gamet of Lincoln, NE
Leanne Gamet of Paxton
Jack and Kate Harich of Minneapolis, MN
One sister in law, Evelyn Feltz of Louisville, KY
Three nieces and four nephews
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Shirley Franken;
brother, Melvin Keith; sisters in law, Wilma Frost, Verde Peters and
Florence Kelly.
Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010 at the
Gubser Funeral Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated
at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at St. Luke's Catholic Church
with Fr. Bryan Ernest as celebrant. Burial will be in the Ogallala
Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in her
memory to the donor's choice of St. Luke's Catholic Church or the
Keith County Community Foundation.
