A. Geraldine Kleist, age 91 of rural Ogallala, passed away Wednesday evening, June 3, 2009 at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

She was born April 4, 1918 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of M.E. “Earl” and Agnes (Holfeldt) Rasdal. She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Missouri and received a Master’s Degree from Chadron State College.

Gerry married E.E. “Al” Kleist on June 27, 1941 in Ogallala. The couple moved to a farm south of Ogallala in 1947. Al and Gerry operated the farm and Gerry did substitute teaching before she returned to teaching English at the Grant High School full time in 1968. She retired from teaching in 1989. She had been a member of P.E.O. and was an Ak-Sar-Ben Countess in 1938.

Sons, Kim Kleist of California, Mel and wife Michelle Kleist of North Platte

Grandchildren, Emmarie Nagle, Matt Linker and wife Nikki, Marissa Kleist

Great granddaughter, Madalynn Linker

Sister, E. Jane Kuska of Los Angeles, CA

Brother, Dan Rasdal of Los Altos, CA

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9th at the United Church of Christ, First Congregation with Pastor Lauran Heidenreich officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
