Gene France

             Gene Richard France, age 82 of Ogallala, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.

            He was born May 30, 1928 in Gothenburg, Nebraska the son of Kenneth B. and Martha (Gronewold) France.  Gene grew up in Gothenburg graduating from the Gothenburg High School in 1945. 

            On November 13, 1949 he married Shirley Wallace in Chappell.  The couple moved to Colorado in 1951 and to Gothenburg in 1953.  In 1956 they moved to Gold Creek, Montana.  They lived in Tucson, Arizona from 1969 until 1975 when they moved to Ogallala to make their home.

            Gene enjoyed many years of traveling with Shirley following his retirement.  He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, gardening and making jewelry from the many rocks he had collected over the years.

Survivors include:

One daughter, Gayle and husband Howard Hazelwood of Fort Worth, TX

One son, Robert and wife Brenda France of Tucson, AZ

One brother, Leonard France of Gothenburg, NE

One sister, Delores Heuer of Ainsworth, NE

Grandchildren, Nicole and husband Chad Puckett, Robyn Teppen,

                       Robert and wife Jamie Hazelwood, Renee and husband

                       Christopher Rodriquez, Jennifer France, Lee Ann Greenway,

                       Nicholas France and Jeff O'Neill

Eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews

            He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Shirley; one son Douglas B. France; one daughter Susan K. O'Neill and one granddaughter, Tracy Teppen

             Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 3rd at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Pastor Eric Wait of the New Hope Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Friday at the Gubser Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.  Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
