Everett  Hibbs

 

Everett D. Hibbs, age 73 of Ogallala, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2010, at the Golden Ours Convalescent Home in Grant.

 

Everett was born May 10, 1937 in Cozad, Nebraska, the son of Oren and Lena (Waechter) Hibbs.  He grew up and attended school in Lexington, Nebraska before entering the U.S. Navy in 1957.  During his service in the Navy he was stationed in California, Hawaii and Japan and proudly served aboard the USS Lexington.  Everett also served in the Nebraska National Guards following his discharge from active duty.

           

On February 16, 1960 Everett married Barbary Jo Pemberton.  The couple lived in Denver, Colorado where their first daughter, Lorrie, was born.  In 1961 they moved to Ogallala and their second daughter, Shelly, was born.  Everett had resided in Ogallala since that time.

           

Everett was employed by TRW.  He spent three years working for the company in Guadalajara, Mexico.  He retired in 1999 and filled his days with hunting, fishing, gardening and enjoying life.

 

Survivors include:

Two daughters, Shelly and husband Dave Schmitt of Grant

                       Lorrie Hibbs-Estrada and husband Cookie of Joplin, MO

Grandchildren,  Jenni and husband Barry Hansen of Ft. Collins, CO

                      Brandy Armstrong and fiancé Moe Keshavarzi 

                      of Los Angeles, CA

                      Anthony and Emillio Estrada of Joplin, MO

Sister,   Patty Roberts of Spencer, IA and numerous nieces and nephews

 

He was preceded in death his parents; a brother, Dean Hibbs; sisters Betty Matson and Phyllis Ruppert; and wife Barbary Hibbs.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Ogallala New Hope Church with Pastor Eric Wait officiating.  Burial will be in the North Platte Cemetery with military honors. 

 

 The casket will be closed.  Friends may sign the register book from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Gubser Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
