Evelyn L. Wiest, 83, passed away July 29, 2010 at Ogallala Community Hospital. She was born February 7, 1927, to John and Eleanor (Duffy) Kildare in Ogallala, NE. She lived her entire life in Ogallala. She graduated from Ogallala High School in 1945.
On August 17, 1946, she and Donald D. Wiest married. They celebrated 63 wonderful and devoted years of marriage.
Evelyn was a life-time member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and was President of the St. Luke’s Altar Society for three years. She and Don owned and operated a neighborhood grocery, “Don’s Market,” for 10 years. She was Director of the Senior Citizens’ Center, and oversaw construction of the Center on West 1st Street. She was a board member of Ogallala Community Hospital for several years.
Evelyn is survived by her husband, Don, of Ogallala; one daughter, Cheryl Wiest, San Antonio, TX; and four sons, Donald E. Wiest and wife Kathy of Superior, NE; Gregory D. Wiest and wife Patty of Lake Oswego, OR; Gerald V. Wiest of Albuquerque, NM; and Joseph L. Wiest and his wife Jacki, of Manchester, CT; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Colleen (Kildare) Kinford, Bedford, OH, and one brother Bernard Kildare, Cheyenne, WY. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven siblings.

A memorial has been established. Rosary will be prayed Sunday, August 1st at 2 p.m. at Gubser Funeral Home.
A funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Ogallala. Burial will follow in the Ogallala Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. Gubser Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. |
