DeWayne Magnuson
DeWayne Magnuson, age 87 of Ogallala, passed away Sunday evening,
July 25, 2010 at his home. He was born October 23, 1922 in
Stapleton, Nebraska, the son of F.C. "Buster" and Clare (Seitz)
Magnuson.
DeWayne grew up on the Diamond Bar Ranch in the Sandhills and
attended Diamond Bar School. He graduated from the Curtis High
School of Agriculture in 1940. He worked on various ranches,
including the Claude Dikeman Ranch (Diamond Bar), the George
McGinley Ranch and the Walt Haythorn Ranch. He also worked on road
construction from Thermopolis, Wyoming to Sioux City, Iowa. He was
part of the crew that paved the road from Sutherland to Wallace.
DeWayne married Marvel Sanders on October 14, 1943 in Sutherland,
Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born, Linda and Jean.
They raised their family on the George McGinley Ranch north of
Keystone. After leaving the McGinley Ranch, he drove the Standard
Oil bulk tank truck for Bob VandeVoorde, later purchasing the
business which he operated until retiring in 1985.
He served on the Keith County Rodeo Board for fifteen years, was a
life member of the Ogallala Elks Lodge # 1760 and was an active
supporter of many local 4-H clubs for many years. In his retirement
he continued being an active hunter and fisherman and enjoyed
playing cards and drinking coffee with his cronies.
Survivors include: his two daughters: Linda Tausan and Jean Magnuson
of Ogallala; grandchildren: Melanie (Jerry) Meyer of Little Rock,
AR, Gerri (Tommy Joe) Miller, Jeani Davis and K.D. Tausan of
Brookhaven, MS, Jeremy (Julie) Kudrna of Willard, MO, Crystal Gordon
of Greenbrier, AR; fifteen great grandchildren; brother: Don
Magnuson of Alliance, NE; sister: Jo (Bill) Reutzel of Ogallala; and
many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: F.C. and Clare Magnuson;
wife: Marvel in 2004; brothers: Oran and Dale Magnuson; sister in
law: Dellora Magnuson; and a great grandson: Justin Davis.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 31st at the
New Hope Church Worship Center on East O Street in Ogallala with
Pastor Eric Wait officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala
Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on
Friday at the Gubser Funeral Home and at the church prior to
services on Saturday.
