Darlene DeVoe

Darlene  DeVoe, age 86 of Ogallala, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the Indian Hills Manor Nursing Home.

Darlene was born June 15, 1921 in Ayr, Nebraska the daughter of James and Neva (Connely) Johnson. She married Harold DeVoe on January 8, 1938 in Chappell, Nebraska. They were lifelong residents of Ogallala where they raised their eight children.

Darlene devoted her life as a homemaker caring for her husband and family. She and her beloved H.M. loved to dance and play bridge with their good friends. Darlene continued as an avid bridge player well into her late seventies. Many in Ogallala knew Darlene was an excellent cook from being the recipient of her hospitality and benevolence.

She was passionate about sharing her "meals of love" with anyone in need, her many friends and always with her family. She would often include a love note, poem or a little quip in her care packages. Darlene had a poetic gift as well as a keen sense of humor. Through the years she always had an open door policy and welcomes many with love, a smile and a meal. Her goodness touched many lives. Darlene loved music and loved to travel but her greatest joy in life was spending time laughing and visiting with all her family. In her last days a visit from her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter always brought a smile and a twinkle to her eye.

Darlene was a fifty year plus member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and P.E.O. Chapter CL. For many years she enjoyed cooking and serving for the Women’s Fellowship and working at the church Jumble Shop. Darlene also gave many years of volunteer time to the RSVP. Darlene was loved and admired by many and will be deeply missed by her family.
