Charles McCroden Charles F. McCroden, age 88, longtime Ogallala resident, passed away Thursday evening, August 13, 2009 at the Ponderosa Villa Nursing Home in Crawford, Nebraska. Charles was born April 26, 1921 in Ogallala and graduated from the Ogallala High School with the Class of 1939. He worked as a carpenter and plumber on the Kingsley Dam Project. Charles served in the Army Air Corp, reaching the rank of Sergeant and was discharged in December of 1945, returning home to join his father in farming. Farming became a lifelong passion. He also worked at the Ogallala Post Office retiring from the Postal Service in 1986. Charles was a life member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. He was an active member of the Ogallala Elks Lodge, Good Sam’s Camping Club and the Big Mac Camping Club. Survivors include: Sons, Don and wife Janie McCroden of Omaha, NE Dale and wife Kim McCroden of Crawford, NE Grandchildren, Sara McCroden of Omaha, NE Kevin and wife Kim McCroden of Chandler, AZ Mike McCroden of Omaha, NE and fiancé Jana Petty of Salt Lake City, UT, Matt McCroden of Rapid City, SD Sister in laws, Eleanor McCroden of Ogallala Margaret Westerbuhr of Brule Erma Hulinsky of Brule And many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred McCroden; parents, James V. and Mae Mathers McCroden; brothers, John and James McCroden; sisters, Bernadette Smolczyk, Margaretta Dietch and Eulalia Ure. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 19th at St. Luke’s Catholic Church with Father Bryan Ernest, Father James C. Schrader and Father Bernard Berger as concelebrants. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 7:00p.m. on Tuesday, August 18th at the Gubser Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the Rosary on Tuesday at the Gubser Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com. A memorial has been established to the Nebraska Children’s Home in Charles’ memory. Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
