Carolyn Daiss

Carolyn (Pounds) Daiss, age 84, former Ogallala resident, passed away on Friday, January 2, 209 in Harvard, Nebraska.
 

Carolyn was born on January 15, 1924 the daughter of Horace “Pete” and Minnie V. (Boss) Pounds in Ogallala. She lived in Ogallala for most of her life, leaving in October of 2003 to live next to her children in Hastings.


Carolyn graduated from the Ogallala High School in 1943, and married Donald E. Daiss, Sr. in Grant, Nebraska on August 21, 1943. They lived on a farm south of Roscoe until her husband was inducted into the United States Army on March 15, 1944.


She worked for Goodall Electric until the war ended, at which time she and her husband worked on the homestead farm south of Ogallala. During this time in her life Carolyn and Don owned several businesses until she returned to work with TRW Corporation in 1968. Carolyn remained a proud employee of TRW as it transitioned into American Suziki Corporation in the mid 1980’s, retiring in 1989.


Carolyn was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, and active in the Episcopal Church Women’s organization until moving in 2003.


She is survived by her daughter, Debby Sawyer of Hastings; two sons, Donald Jr. and his wife Dianna of Orlando, FL, and Doyle and his wife Donna of Hastings; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her maternal aunt, Merytle Teskie of Onega, KS. She was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce; two brothers, Walt and Orville Pounds; her parents; and her granddaughter, Annette Williams.


Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with Reverend Mary Lou Reynolds of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home and prior to the services on Tuesday morning. Online condolences may be sent at gubserfuneralhome.com.
