Bill Perlinger
William "Bill" David Perlinger, age 85, passed away at his home south of Paxton on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
Bill was born on July 5, 1925 at Sutherland, Nebraska, the son of Paul and Mary (Fellner) Perlinger. He attended a one-room school at District # 70 in Perkins County. Bill served in the combat infantry as a sharpshooter in the Philippines, entering the service on December 21, 1943. He was honorably discharged on April 17, 1946 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Bill liked and farmed on the family farm in Perkins County until his death. He was very active in the Hankins-Miller American Legion Post # 303 for sixty-six years, including serving as commander for many years. He could always be counted upon to organize or participate in veteran’s events in the area. Bill was a lifetime member of a very active in the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Paxton.
Survivors include two sisters, Clara Wamsley of Ogallala and Edna Thomas of Arlington, Washington; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul Perlinger II; and sisters, Marian Langmacher, Lucille Jayne and Martha Perlinger.
Rosary and Mass of Christian Burial were held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church with Father Neal Nollette as celebrant. Burial was in the Paxton Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Hankins-Miller Post # 303 of the American Legion.
