Alyce  Schmidt

            Alyce Schmidt, age 100, passed away Friday afternoon, June 15, 2007 at the Ogallala Community Hospital. 

            She was born October 7, 1906 in Genoa, Nebraska the daughter of John Hansen Schow and Henrika Kirkgaard. 

Alyce graduated from the Dana Academy at Blair, Nebraska and on April 2, 1936 married William F. Schmidt.  The couple resided in Omaha, Nebraska until her father’s death in 1972.  Alyce was employed as a secretary and was active in many community and civic organization while she lived in Omaha. 

Bill and Alyce moved to the farm south of Roscoe, Nebraska in 1972 to care for her brothers, Howard and John Dale Schow, and farmed until Bill’s death in 1982.  Alyce continued to farm with her brother, John Dale Schow, until 1999 when they sold their farm and moved into Ogallala.  Health issues later forced Alyce to move into Indian Hills Manor where she resided until the time of her death.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Schmidt; a sister, Bertha; and two brothers, Howard and Dale.  She is survived by several second cousins including Dean Schow and families of Paxton and several friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 18^th at the Paxton Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor Elwood Hipple officiating.  Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.  A memorial has been established to the church in her memory.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.  Gubser Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
